About me
I am Larissa and I am twenty-something living in my hometown of Calgary, Alberta Canada. Ever since I was very tiny myself I have loved creating things, be it paintings, drawings or crafts, or making a mess in the kitchen by baking a batch of homemade cookies.
Baking and art are my passions and I spend the majority of my mental-free-time dreaming up whimsical edible creations, or pondering about the beauty of an artfully crafted cake. I think food makes the best art, and vice versa. I graduated in 2015 from the Alberta College of Art and Design with a Bachelors of Fine Art. My major was painting, and at school I was known as the "girl who painted cakes", a title I am proud to bear. Visual art and experimentation was the focus, but the subject matter was always desserts. Now, I find myself wanting to focus more on the food itself, making delicious, outrageously tasty confections, using the same amount of creativity as it takes to be an artist. My goal is to keep things comforting and scrumptious, but with a twist, and using my art to show the beauty of everyday deliciousness. I am currently following my dream of going to Baking School and couldn't be more excited! I hope to document and share some of this experience on this site. Can't wait to nerd out about ingredients and techniques with anyone who wants to listen :D |
Tiny Tea Party: A moment of pause to celebrate and embrace the small things that make our everyday lives so grand. The littlest things are truly the biggest deal, after all. Example: Cookies.
Tiny is fun, so a lot of the photos you will see here are of my handmade and painted mini sculptures. I find an extensive amount of joy and comfort in re-creating familiar things in miniature form. They are not perfect replicas, but that is kind of the point.
At the end of the day, food should taste good and make us feel comforted. I don't want to cook stuff that I don't actually want to eat. The recipes here should be comforting, cute, crave-worthy, artful, thoughtful, and homemade with love. That is what makes them beautiful.
May your days be happy and your cookie jar forever filled!
